My Work Showcase

I'm Jonathan Flanders, a third year Civil and Structural Engineering Student at Newcastle University. I have just completed my summer internship at LSY Engineering Consultants working as a student Structural Engineer. I am in pursuit of gaining experience within Investment Banking for next summer before entering my final year at University.

Work Experience

During the summer of 2021, I worked as a structural engineer for LSY Engineering Consultants. I worked on numerous projects both temporary works and permanent works.

Whilst I was at LSY I also helped develop a number of design spreadsheets and worked on the internal infrastructure of the company.

I have currently finished my second year of four at Newcastle University. This year I was chosen to be team leader for our group design project. Our task was to design a High Speed Rail link between Chester-Le-Street and Morpeth in the North East of England. We have currently finished our final technical report and presentation which involved a robust assessment to cut from ten initial routes down to one. Our report was focused on five key areas:

  1. Route Alignment

  2. Structural Design

  3. Maintenance Facility Layout

  4. Green Travel Plan

  5. Water Features Survey

During my first year of Civil Engineering. Our team was given the brief to design a sustainable development just South of the River Tyne. This was to provide housing for over 400 people and allow them to have easy access to the community surrounding them. As you can see from the images below, our team managed to design a modern and efficient community development. Throughout this process I developed my skills with SketchUp and ArcGIS to create visual models to present to our client.
